Overview
The Hierophant sits between the same two pillars as the High Priestess, but where she guards hidden knowledge, he proclaims public doctrine. He wears a triple crown invoking the three worlds — material, celestial, and spiritual. Two acolytes kneel before him, tonsured and obedient, receiving the blessings of tradition. The keys at his feet symbolize access to the kingdom of spiritual understanding, but only through the established channels he represents. The Hierophant is the bridge between humanity and the divine as mediated by religion, education, and lineage. He often appears when you are being initiated into a tradition, taking formal vows, or seeking mentorship from an established authority. He can also mark moments when conforming to convention brings more reward than rebellion. The question the Hierophant asks is whether the tradition in front of you still carries living wisdom or merely dead form.
