Overview
The Four of Swords shows a knight lying on a tomb, hands folded in prayer, a stained glass window of an angel above him. Three swords hang on the wall behind, and the fourth sword lies beneath the knight. The image is of rest, retreat, and restoration — often associated with meditation, recovery from illness, or the contemplative pause after difficulty. The Four of Swords often appears after a stressful period to invite genuine rest. Unlike the Hanged Man who is suspended passively, the Four of Swords is intentional rest — chosen stillness to integrate and recover. When this card appears, you are being asked to pause. Continued pushing will not produce what rest will.
